Annapurna Region
The Mardi Himal Trek offers a fresh perspective on Nepal's natural beauty, blending rural villages, diverse terrain, and breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. As an alternative to the classic Annapurna Base Camp trek, it leads to the Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500m, offering close-up vistas of Annapurna South, Machhapuchre, and Hiunchuli. Despite its modest height compared to giants like Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri, Mardi Himal's allure lies in its pristine and lesser-visited trails, making it an ideal choice for both novice and seasoned trekkers. Since its opening in 2012, it has remained one of Nepal's hidden gems, promising a memorable adventure for those seeking a unique mountain experience.

Today's trek takes us on a thrilling journey from Forest Camp to High Camp via Low Camp, where each step reveals new wonders of the Himalayan landscape. While the path may challenge us with steep sections, the rewards are plentiful as we feast our eyes on the majestic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), the towering Annapurna Range, and the expansive Annapurna Base Camp valley. Amidst the forest's embrace, occasional clearings grant us glimpses of Annapurna South, beckoning us forward into a realm of scrub forest and sprawling meadows. As we ascend, the ridge narrows, offering breathtaking views of deep valleys on either side: to the left, the winding Modi Khola river valley leading to the Annapurna Sanctuary, and to the right, the serene Mardi Khola and Seti river valleys. On days blessed with clarity, the distant silhouette of Pokhara Valley emerges on the horizon, a testament to the vastness of our surroundings. Continuing along the precipitous ridgeline, we finally reach the lofty heights of High Camp at 3900m, where we settle in for the night amidst the awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayas.
We rise with the dawn at High Camp, eager to witness the awe-inspiring sunrise painting the mighty Himalayas in hues of gold and pink. With spirits high, we embark on a thrilling ascent along the narrow ridge towards the lofty heights of Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4500 meters. As we reach the summit, we're greeted by an unparalleled vista: the sun casting its warm glow upon the majestic Annapurna South, while the iconic Fishtail Mountain stands tall against the morning sky. Taking in this breathtaking scene, we linger awhile at the base camp, soaking in the serenity of the Himalayan landscape. After a satisfying exploration, we make our way back to High Camp for a hearty lunch, rejuvenating our spirits for the journey ahead. Descending further, we find ourselves at Low Camp, where we'll spend another night under the stars, surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains.
Our journey continues as we descend from Low Camp along a steep trail that winds through dense forest. After an hour of trekking, we emerge into a spacious clearing, offering a welcome opportunity to rest and rejuvenate amidst nature's embrace. With spirits refreshed, we resume our descent towards the hillside village of Siding, nestled 500 meters above the river valley. As we trek through the quaint village of Landruk, inhabited by the indigenous Gurung community, we are immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of the region. Depending on our progress, we may choose to spend the night in Landruk or push onwards to the tranquil haven of Jhinu Danda. Here, nestled amidst lush greenery, lies a natural treasure: soothing hot springs, where we can unwind and soothe our tired muscles, immersed in the healing waters of nature.
