Embarking on our Himalayan adventure after two days of driving, our journey commences with a hearty breakfast in Sekathum. Continuing our journey from Amjilosa, we set our sights on Gyabla, also known as Kyapra. Breakfast energizes us for the day ahead as we navigate dense forests and trails devoid of human settlements. With luck on our side, we may catch a glimpse of the elusive Red Pandas that inhabit these remote reaches of the Kanchenjunga Trail. Uphill climbs reward us with breathtaking vistas of towering mountains and cascading waterfalls adorning the landscape. Slowly but steadily, we press onward until we reach the welcoming embrace of Gyabla village, another milestone on our unforgettable trek through the Himalayas

After a hearty breakfast to fuel our bodies, we embark on the next leg of our trek, beginning a gradual ascent through the tranquil embrace of an open pine forest. With every step, we're immersed in the pristine beauty of our surroundings, keeping a keen eye out for elusive blue sheep and the majestic snow leopard, inhabitants of these rugged Himalayan landscapes. As we traverse through the terrain, we remain mindful of the occasional landslide-prone areas, navigating them with caution while marveling at the resilience of nature. Amidst this adventurous journey, our senses are treated to a spectacle of grandeur as we catch glimpses of the towering Mt. Jannu, its snow-capped peaks dominating the horizon with an aura of majesty. After days of trekking, Khambachen offers a serene respite amidst the towering giants of the Kanchenjunga region. Here, amidst the crisp mountain air, we take time to acclimate, embarking on short hikes to nearby glaciers, viewpoints, and crystal-clear lakes on the way to Kumbakarna Mountain, also known as Jannu, the 32nd-highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 7,710 meters. It is an important western outlier of Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak. Kumbakarna is a large and steep peak in its own right, and has numerous challenging climbing routes. Its pyramid summit casts a spell over all who behold its grandeur, beckoning with the allure of adventure and the promise of awe-inspiring vistas, a testament to the indomitable spirit of exploration in this remote corner of Nepal's wilderness.
Continuing our trek, we traverse the rugged terrain of the Kanchenjunga glacier trail, where we encounter fellow trekkers journeying to and from the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp during the peak season. Along the way, we pass through the quaint village of Ramdang and pause to admire the serene Ramdang Monastery. As we press on, navigating the challenging terrain, we reach the junction where the Lhonak and Kanchenjunga glaciers meet. Pushing forward, we arrive at the remote settlement of Lhonak, where a handful of cozy teahouses welcome weary travelers like ourselves
Today's adventure takes us on a hike to the north base camp of Mount Kanchenjunga, affectionately known as Pang Pema. We ascend gradually, tracing the contours of the moraines along the trail until we reach the sacred grounds of Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Here, prayer flags flutter in the mountain breeze, offering a spiritual backdrop to the awe-inspiring sight of the towering peak of Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world. After days of trekking, this moment is our well-deserved reward. As the day draws to a close, we make our way back to Lhonak for a peaceful overnight stay, filled with memories of the majestic landscapes we've traversed.
As we bid farewell to the breathtaking vistas of the Himalayas at Kanchenjunga Base Camp, we journey back along the familiar trail, retracing our steps to Ghunsa. The Kanchenjunga trail unfolds memories of stone huts nestled amidst towering peaks, rocky fields lining our path, and the occasional thrill of navigating through rock-falling zones. Each step echoes with the echoes of our adventures, leaving an indelible imprint of the majestic landscapes we've traversed on this unforgettable trek.
As we reach Sele Le, veering off the trail towards Gyabla, we enter a dense forest where elusive snow leopards may grace us with their presence. Along the way, we encounter isolated human settlements and a few teahouses, bustling only during the peak trekking season. During heavy snowfall, this pathway becomes the sole connection to reach the South Base Camp until Sekathum. Should the teahouses be closed, yet we manage to navigate the passes, we could potentially reach Tseram in a single day, shaving off precious time from our planned itinerary.
Departing from Sele Le Pass, we ascend towards the high-altitude passes of Sinion La, Mirgin La, and Sinelapche Bhanjyang, each offering breathtaking vistas of towering peaks including Mt. Jannu, Everest, Makalu, Baruntse, Chamlang, and Kanchenjunga. The panoramic views unfold like a masterpiece painting as we climb higher, immersing ourselves in the grandeur of the Himalayas. Descending to Tseram, we conclude our day's journey, filled with awe and gratitude for the majestic landscapes surrounding us.
Setting out after an early breakfast, we ascend through the Yalung glacier, drawing closer to the majestic vistas that await. Along the way, the Yalung offers glimpses of Rathong (6682m) and Kabru (7412m), adding to the allure of our journey. Pausing for a midday reprieve at Ramche, we then venture onwards to Oktang/Okhordung, the vantage point overlooking Yalung Base Camp or Kanchenjunga South Base Camp. Here, we're treated to an intimate view of the three summits of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8420m, 8586m, and 8474m), as well as other towering peaks that adorn the horizon. Exploring this untouched sanctuary, seldom visited by trekkers, we immerse ourselves in the untamed beauty of Kanchenjunga Base Camp before retracing our steps back to Tseram.
As we bid farewell to the towering snow-capped peaks behind us, our descent through the serene rhododendron forests fills us with a sense of peace. The journey begins with a gentle downhill trek, leading us through the Simbuwa Khola with mesmerizing vistas of the Himalayas unfolding along the way. Finally, we arrive at Tortong, where we'll spend the night, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the mountains, reflecting on the day's adventures amidst nature's embrace.
Leaving Tortong behind, our journey continues with a descent towards the Amji Khola, navigating through Lasiya/Lamite Bhanjyang (3415m) and Dhupi Bhanjyang (2665m). Traversing steep slopes, we arrive at the charming Yamphudin village. Here, at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area checkpost, our permits are reviewed, marking our progress if we commenced our trek from Kanchenjunga South Base Camp first. It's a moment of reflection as we prepare to move forward, knowing that each step brings us closer to the completion of our unforgettable journey through the Himalayas.
With breakfast enjoyed in Yamphudin, our day begins with a leisurely exploration of picturesque landscapes along winding trails, tracing the path alongside the tranquil Kabeli Khola. As we bid farewell to the mountain villages, we transition to a scenic drive towards Kanyam, a captivating destination nestled amidst lush tea gardens. En route to Kanyam, the sight of sprawling cardamom and tea plantations greets us through the windows, painting a vivid tapestry of greenery. While descending from the lofty altitudes, memories of our trek linger, mingling with the bittersweet realization of returning to the lowlands. As we arrive in Kanyam, we're welcomed by the hustle and bustle of local tourists, drawn to this renowned destination for its charming tea gardens and serene ambiance.
After savoring breakfast, we'll leisurely wander through the verdant expanse of tea cultivation, soaking in the tranquil ambiance. Following this serene interlude, a scenic 2-3 hour drive awaits us, leading us to Bhadrapur. From there, a brief 45 to 50-minute flight whisks us back to Kathmandu in the late afternoon. Upon arrival, we'll personally accompany you to your hotel and extend an invitation to a heartfelt farewell dinner alongside our esteemed management team in the evening, commemorating the memorable journey we've shared together.
